Knicks expected to be 'aggressive' in upgrading their roster

The New York Knicks' season is over.

Tom Thibodeau's team fought valiantly despite losing multiple members of its rotation throughout the postseason. Ultimately, the hobbled roster could not stem the tide as the Indiana Pacers caught fire on offense in Game 7 on Sunday.

Despite a successful season, the Knicks won't be happy with how things ended. As such, they could look to make some changes during the summer.

According to Shams Charania, who was speaking via Monday's episode of "Run It Back," New York is expected to be aggressive in upgrading its roster.

"They're gonna continue to be aggressive," Charania said. "They've got eight first-round draft picks they can trade. They have seconds, they have swaps. So, they're looking for that next player, if he's available, whatever that's going to be."

New York's front office has already shown it can be aggressive, making moves to acquire OG Anunoby, Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks. It will undoubtedly be willing to enter negotiations if another star player becomes available. It also has talented players that could be used as trade pieces if the right deal presented itself.

Thibodeau's team succumbed to injuries at the worst time. When healthy, it is a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference.

The franchise likely feels like it can take another step forward next season. Anunoby helped take the Knicks to another level, and New York will be a fearsome unit on both sides of the ball if it can retain him in free agency and continue building around him and Jalen Brunson.

Nevertheless, if the Knicks want to take another leap forward, it may mean parting with some assets to add another star talent who fits with the current core. Julius Randle could find himself becoming a makeweight in any potential deal.

Whatever happens, the Knicks will enter next season as a powerhouse in the Eastern Conference. How far they go will depend on how much the front office has improved the team's depth and top-end talent.
